Jaden Bailes made the game-winning shot for JSerra as time expired to beat Mater Dei 67-66 in a Trinity League game Friday at Mater Dei High.
JSerra (17-11, 3-2) clinched the No. 3 seed in the Trinity League tournament next week that will take place over three days at Concordia University and Hope International University.
The results of that tournament will decide the league champion and automatic playoff qualifiers from the league.
Kansas signee Luke Barnett made a go-ahead 3-pointer for Mater Dei (16-12, 2-3) with 5.3 seconds remaining to give the Monarchs a 66-65 lead which prompted a JSerra timeout.
Bailes took the inbound pass and dribbled across the court into traffic but made the game-winning shot over two defenders.
Bailes, a Seattle University signee, led JSerra with 18 points and scored 15 of them in the second half. Godschoice Eboigbodin had 15 points and Ryan Doane added 14.
Zain Majeed led Mater Dei with 20 points and Richie Ramirez had 19. Barnett had 11 points for the Monarchs, all in the second half.

In the Trinity League:
Santa Margarita 102, Orange Lutheran 81: Santa Margarita matched a season-high with 102 points in a home win over Orange Lutheran.
Santa Margarita (25-3, 4-1) will be the No. 2 seed in the Trinity League tournament. The Eagles are tied with St. John Bosco at the top of the league standings, but Santa Margarita lost to the Braves in the one game between the two teams.
Kaiden Bailey led Santa Margarita with 31 points and made six 3-pointers. Drew Anderson had 30 points and 11 rebounds for the Eagles.
Brayden Kyman added 14 points, nine assists and six rebounds.
Noah Zeola led Orange Lutheran (18-9, 2-3) with 24 points and made four 3-pointers.
St John Bosco 73, Servite 65: Servite led at halftime but couldn’t hold on in the second half at St. John Bosco.
Tariq Johnson paced Servite (18-10, 0-5) with 21 points and made five 3-pointers. Jake Schutt had 20 points for the Friars and Saiger Smith added 12.
In the South Coast League:
Tesoro 60, Dana Hills 52: Tesoro clinched a share of its first league championship since 2023 with a home win over Dana Hills.
The Titans (24-3, 7-0) will play at San Clemente on Monday and will earn the outright league championship with a win. If San Clemente wins, the two teams share the league championship.
Max Draper led Tesoro with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Dean Mika had 11 points for the Titans.
San Clemente 59, San Juan Hills 56: San Clemente narrowly beat San Juan Hills to set itself up for a league championship game against Tesoro on Monday.
Bryan Blake led San Clemente (17-10, 6-1) with 19 points. Desi Gutierrez had 17 points for the Tritons and Braeden Baggs added 13 points with eight rebounds. San Clemente beat San Juan Hills by 22 points the first time the two teams met.
Rocco Jensen led San Juan Hills (14-13, 4-4) with 18 points and Kellen Owens added 14.
In the Sunset League:
Corona del Mar 73, Huntington Beach 45: Corona del Mar clinched the outright Sunset League championship with a rout of Huntington Beach at home.
Maxwell Scott led Corona del Mar (26-1, 11-0) with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Ryan Mansouri had 12 points for the Sea Kings and Luke Mirhashemi had a double-double with 10 points and 12 assists.
In the Pacific Coast League:
Portola 75, Sage Hill 67: Portola trailed at halftime but rallied to beat Sage Hill and earn a spot in the championship game of the Pacific Coast League tournament.
Max Paulsen had 28 points for Portola (22-5, 7-0).
Portola will play Woodbridge in the league tournament championship game Tuesday.
The Bulldogs narrowly beat Woodbridge 50-48 on Jan. 13.
In the San Joaquin League:
Pacifica Christian 68, Capistrano Valley Christian 52: Pacifica Christian held on to its second-place spot in the league standings with a win over Capistrano Valley Christian at Vanguard University.
Michael Noel led Pacifica Christian (19-6, 3-1) with 15 points. Donovan Hogan had a double-double with 14 points and 13 rebounds and Joaquin Rigdon added 11 points.
Benjamin Makalela paced Capo Valley Christian (13-13, 0-4) with 17 points and nine rebounds. Matthew Ahern had 17 points and Deuce Moore had three steals.
In the Grove League:
Orange 54, Rancho Alamitos 50: Orange erased an 11 point deficit with six minutes remaining in the game to keep its playoff hopes alive.
The Panthers outscored Rancho Alamitos (10-17, 3-4) 22-10 in the fourth quarter.
Sebastian Nunez led Orange (7-20, 2-5) with 21 points and Vic Ceja added 11.
