It looks like Ben Johnson will get another chance to make good on his desire to beat Matt LaFleur twice a year.
The Green Bay Packers made it officially official by announcing multi-year extensions for Head Coach Matt LaFleur, General Manager Brian Gutekunst, and Director of Football Operations Russ Ball. Specifics regarding years and cash for these new deals weren’t made available, but Packers President and CEO Ed Policy shared this statement of support in the announcement of the new deals:
“We are excited to extend our commitment to Brian, Matt and Russ as the leaders of our football operations. Their steadfast dedication, passion and collaboration have remained constant in our drive to compete at the highest level. While we are all disappointed with the way this season ended, we remain aligned in purpose and have spent considerable time over the past weeks collaborating on a path forward. I am exceedingly confident we have the right people to achieve our goal. The entire Packers organization looks forward to supporting every effort to bring our community and fans another championship that they very much deserve.”
While the Packers president expressed his disappointment with how the season ended, I’m still pretty thrilled about it. How about you?

Matt LaFleur returns for another season with the Packers and is looking to improve on a 76-40-1 regular-season record as a head coach. Meanwhile, Brian Gutekunst will try to continue improving upon his stellar record as an executive. Game recognize game. And Gutekunst has acquired a ton of quality talent in his time as general manager. Keeping this continuity could be beneficial for Green Bay. With that being said, I like my chances with Ben Johnson going toe-to-toe with Chicago’s rivals from Wisconsin more than I have with any other coach we have seen the Bears throw out in this rivalry since this site’s inception in 2017.

There was a time when the futures of LaFleur (and, to an extent, Gutekunst) seemed to be up in the air. Losing twice to the Chicago Bears in a span of 21 days led to questions about LaFleur hanging around Green Bay beyond this season. The Packers head coach was heading into the final year of his contract, as was the general manager who hired him. But here we are, 20 days after the Bears dealt the Packers a loss that eliminated them from the playoffs, and Green Bay is running it back with the guys who got ’em there in the first place.
