Pre-Gamin’: Bulls vs Heat (7:00 PM CT) – Projected Lineups, How to Watch, More ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

The Chicago Bulls will look to rebound at home from a brutal fourth-quarter collapse against the Indiana Pacers last night. That 113-110 loss marked Chicago’s second straight defeat. The Bulls will be facing the Miami Heat in their first of three clashes over the next four nights. Thursday’s home game is a make-up after the ice below the United Center flooded the hardwood earlier this month.

Miami won’t have a rest advantage. The Heat, also, are heading into town after having played the first night of a back-to-back set of games at home Wednesday. They fell to the Orlando Magic at the Kaseya Center, 133-124.

The Bulls will sit nominal starting point guard Josh Giddey with a reaggravated hamstring strain.

All-Star Miami shooting guard Tyler Herro has been sidelined for much of the season with multiple maladies. He’s presently on the shelf with a bone bruise in his left knee.

What To Watch For

One interesting recent wrinkle for Miami has been head coach Erik Spoelstra’s shift of Kel’el Ware back to his bench. The 7-footer out of Indiana has been a reserve since Jan. 10, and missed four recent games for Miami with a right hamstring strain of his own, because everybody has to have a soft tissue injury this year. Given Chicago’s fairly finite frontcourt, one wonders if Ware will be employed more liberally Thursday. Since being returned to the bench, Ware has been averaging 7.0 points on 46.8 percent field goal shooting (29.4 percent from distance) and 4.4 rebounds in just 14.1 minutes a night. He played just under seven minutes against Orlando on Wednesday. With Herro out for much of the year, Norman Powell has emerged as Miami’s deadliest backcourt threat. In 42 games for his new team this season, Powell has been averaging a career-most 23.0 points on .473/.391/.844 shooting splits, 3.7 rebounds, 2.6 assists and 1.1 steals a night. Assuming Josh Giddey does indeed sit, Chicago will lean more heavily on Coby White and Ayo Dosunmu for some supplemental scoring and creation. White has been looking like his pre-injury self of late. Over his last five games, the 6-foot-4 North Carolina product has been averaging 21.6 points while slashing .447/.455/.870, plus 5.4 dimes (against 3.0 turnovers) and 2.8 rebounds. Jalen Smith has seen his status downgraded to “probable” due to a new right calf strain. It’s unclear when that happened during the Pacers game last night. Smith has been something of a good luck charm for Chicago, as the Bulls are a pitiful 0-7 when he sits this season. He’s an agile, mobile body, even if he’s not much of a shot blocker. Smith also can score both around the rim and from distance, as his 37.6 percent shooting on 4.1 triple tries a night can attest. Without Smith or Zach Collins available, Chicago would have to lean on (ugh) Patrick Williams and Julian Phillips for some frontcourt help, or perhaps rookie two-way signing Lachlan Oblrich. © Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images
