MAP: Where to watch Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX ‘Benito Bowl’ halftime show in SoCal ...Middle East

News by : (The Orange County Register) -

Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny had been coming off an extremely successful residency in his home country when he decided his world tour wouldn’t include the U.S. That is, until he was offered a headlining slot on one of the world’s biggest stages: the Super Bowl LX halftime show.

“What I’m feeling goes beyond myself. It’s for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown… this is for my people, my culture and our history,” Bad Bunny said in a joint statement released by the NFL, Apple Music and Roc Nation.

“Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL,” he added, which translates to “Go tell your grandmother we’re going to be the Super Bowl halftime show.”

Bad Bunny, born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, initially did not want to bring his “Debí Tirar Más Fotos” tour, which has been running since November, to the U.S. due to growing concerns that his concerts could become sites of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids, according to an interview he gave to i-D Magazine published in September.

“But there was the issue of — like, f‑‑‑ing ICE could be outside [my concerts],” he said. “And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about.”

Despite his record-breaking residency in Puerto Rico, which bolstered the commonwealth’s economy, and his being Spotify’s most listened-to artist globally for the fourth time in five years, Bad Bunny has drawn ire from conservative media for spotlighting an artist whose music is solely in Spanish.

Turning Point USA, the conservative organization founded by the late Charlie Kirk, announced it would host its own alternative halftime programming dubbed the “All American Halftime Show,” which will be streamed on Dailywire+. More recently, President Donald Trump told the New York Post that he was skipping the event and then criticized Bad Bunny and the new addition of Bay Area alt-rockers Green Day, who have both been critical of his administration, as being “a terrible choice” and “sowing hatred.”

Despite the criticism, Bad Bunny fans are ecstatic to see what he’ll pull off at the Super Bowl. For many Latino fans in the U.S. and abroad, having a Latin American act representing their culture at one of the most prolific sporting events in the country is a source of pride and a celebratory milestone.
