European Aquatics has announced the locations and dates for its 2026 Open Water Cup. The elite series, which hands out 5,000 euros in prize money per event, is headed to Cyprus, Germany, Switzerland, Croatia, and capping the season off Spain.

More so than last year’s European Open Water Cup, this series is Q3-heavy, with four of the five stops falling between late August and early October. This is likely in part due to World Aquatics changing its Open Water World Cup schedule, pushing the global event forward to spring and early summer only. World Aquatics did this to make room for an earlier 2027 and 2028 Open Water World Cup that wouldn’t interfere with the years’ biggest pool swimming events.
Despite the scheduling shift, athletes competing in the 2026 European Open Water cup will race in many familiar venues. Like last year, this year’s event kicks off at a Cyprian resort in Protaras. Last year’s stops in Barcelona, Spain, and Razanac, Croatia, also make a comeback for this year.
Unique to this year, though, are the stops in Munich, Germany, and Tenero, Switzerland. The former stop in Germany’s third largest city will give Bernd Berkhahn’s all-star group a chance to race on home soil. His Magdeburg-based squad includes German Olympians Florian Wellbrock, Isabel Gose, Oliver Klemet, Lukas Märtens, and more.
At each stop, event winners will receive 2,500 euros in prize money. Second place is to earn 1,500, while third place will collect 1,000.
After piloting the partnership at one stop last year, European Aquatics is expanding their work with the Special Olympics. Together, they will put on the Special Olympics Open Water Cup, with the first 800m race kicking off in Protaras, Cyprus.
