The two shared a traumatic experience in the basement of former patient Faye (Olivia Nikkanen) and her husband Devon’s (Jack Falahee) home, which left Devon dead, and the two doctors taking part in a murder cover-up. Ripley expressed his concern that Lenox returned to work too early after that event, and she brushed off his concern about her reckless behavior when she impulsively kissed him in the stairwell.
That led to the steamy encounter in the supply closet.
“I think there’s definitely an element of trauma bonding there,” Mitchell exclusively tells Parade. “I think they’re a little bit of an odd pairing. Maybe there’s a little bit of opposites attract about it. There’s the trauma bonding of it, but then they’re sharing a secret, and then they’re back at work together and trying to navigate that, I guess. It will be very interesting to see where this goes, if it goes anywhere, or if this is just a singular event.”

“There’s an element of him understanding the breakup prior to his knowledge of Hannah being pregnant, and truly being okay with it and wanting to go away and figure himself out and be a better person, evolve and grow and all that good stuff,” Mitchell continues. “I think as much as he was okay with saying goodbye essentially and going off because he needs to do that by himself – or certainly not with Hannah – I think there’s definitely somewhere in his psyche there’s a little bubble of hope that they would find their way back to each other.”
That said, Ripley quickly jumped into a romantic relationship with Sadie (Holly Curan), the woman he rescued from the sink hole. It looked a lot like a rebound relationship from Hannah, and when Sadie realized it, she broke it off.

And then there was the awkward kiss with Ripley’s best friend Sully’s (Daniel Dorr) widow Lynn (Hope Lauren), which will be revisited on tonight’s "Our So-Called Lives" episode in which Ripley and Lynn look to honor Sully on the one-year anniversary of his death.
Mitchell shares a little more of the story, “Ripley and Lynn meet up at a bar and they’re talking about Sully on the anniversary of his death. She has this idea of spreading his ashes at his favorite team’s stadium. He’s a big Cubs fan. So, we actually got to shoot a whole bunch of scenes at Wrigley Field, which was really, really cool.”

“There’s a sequence of them sneaking in, essentially, and then getting caught, but they have some really lovely chats,” Ripley adds. “They get to be kids again and reconnect about their past. But it’s also really sad, and they get to connect on a deeper level. You’ve got that story going on and then you also have a little bit of a continuation of what you saw with Ripley and Lenox in the last episode.”
