MELBOURNE — After defeating no. 4-seeded American Amanda Anisimova in the Australian Open, Buffalo’s Jessica Pegula is set to play in the tournament’s semifinals for the first time.
Pegula, the no. 6 seed, defeated Anisimova in straight sets, 6-2 and 7-2. She’s the only American left in women’s singles and is set to face no. 5 ranked Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan for a trip to the final.
To get to the quarterfinals, Pegula beat American Madison Keys, the defending champion. Pegula is looking for her first title in a Grand Slam tournament. So far, her best finish has been reaching the finals of the 2024 U.S. Open.
