Authorities in a western suburb launched a homicide investigation after a woman was found dead with stab wounds during a fire in an apartment off Ogden Avenue Thursday evening, police said.
Around 6 p.m., Downers Grove authorities responded to a structure fire in an apartment building on the 2300 block of Ogden Avenue.
A 30-year-old pregnant woman was found in the building with apparent stab wounds, authorities said. She was treated by paramedics and pronounced dead at the scene.
A person of interest is in custody, police said, and the incident is being investigated as a homicide.
Though the DuPage County Coroner’s Office has yet to release the woman’s cause of death and her identification is being held by authorities pending notification to family members.
A second person was treated at the scene for smoke inhalation and transported to a local hospital, authorities said.
