USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Jimmy Beeson from Greer, South Carolina, will take his talents to Provo, Utah, next fall to swim and study at Brigham Young University. At the time of his commitment, he wrote on social media:
“I am extremely excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at BYU. Firstly, I would like to thank my family for always supporting me. Next, I would like to thank my coaches, especially Coach Scott, Coach, Eduardo, Coach Dylan, and Coach Wendy for always believing in me. Finally, I am thankful for Coach Tamber and everyone at BYU for this opportunity. Go Cougs!!!”
Beeson is a big pick-up for the Cougars. One of our “Best of the Rest” recruits in the high school class of 2026, he would rank 2nd in the 100 fly and 3rd in the 100 back on the BYU depth chart so far this season. He achieved PBs in those events, plus the 50 free, 100 free and 200 IM, at the 2025 YMCA Short Course National Championships last April. Beeson was runner-up in the 100 fly (47.02), placed 4th in the 100 back (47.99), 5th in the 100 free (44.54), and 5th in the 200 IM (1:48.40), and led off the YSSC 200 free relay in a lifetime-best 20.34. He lowered his 50 free PB to 20.33 in December at the YOTA Capital Classic, where he also notched a best time in the 200 free (1:38.79) and won the 50/200 free, 100 back, and 100 fly.
Earlier in the fall, he competed for his high school, Greer Middle College, at the South Carolina 3A State Championships. He won the 50 free (20.47) and 100 fly (48.20) and led off the winning 200 medley (23.06 backstroke) and 400 free (49.17) relays and helping GMC finish 3rd in the boys’ meet.
Beeson, who swims year-round with Y-Spartaquatics Swim Club, had a big 2025 summer season, as well. He contributed to YSSC’s team title with event wins in the 50 fly, 100 fly, 200 free relay, 400 free relay, 800 free relay, 200 medley relay, and 400 medley relay; runner-up finishes in the 50 free and 50 back, and a 3rd in the 100 free. He left the meet with new LCM bests in the 50 free (23.12), 100 free (50.79), 50 back (26.28), and 100 fly (53.19).
Beeson will enter the BYU class of 2030 with fellow commits Blake Madsen, Colin Eliason, Gavin Willyerd, Grant Kellis, Grayden Barker, and Sam Weaver. The Cougars finished 5th out of 7 teams at the 2025 Big 12 Championships, where Beeson’s best 100 fly time would have scored in the ‘B’ final and his 100 back time would have made the ‘C’ final. He’ll overlap two years with Max Kleinman and one year with Tanner Edwards; the pair currently top the BYU leaderboards in both the 100 fly and 100 back.
