Georgia transfer offensive tackle Jamal Meriweather is heading to the ACC, signing with Miami, according to a report by CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz and Chris Hummer on Friday afternoon.
The 6-foot-7, 305-pounder was a redshirt sophomore this past season at Georgia, so he would have 2 more years of college eligibility still left when he arrives at Miami.
Meriweather appeared in 12 games during the 2025 season for the Bulldogs, but he’s apparently decided to head from the SEC to the ACC and to the program that nearly won the national title on Monday night. Miami lost to Indiana, 27-21, but the Canes are trying to reload for another title run, and the reported signing of Meriweather is literally a huge step toward that goal.

— Matt Zenitz (@mzenitz) January 23, 2026As a key reserve piece to Georgia’s offensive line in 2025, Meriweather’s presence will be missed in Athens in 2026. The Dawgs’ loss is Miami’s reported gain, with Meriweather appearing in 15 games combined over the past 2 seasons at Georgia.
Meriweather only appeared in 3 games during the 2024 season as a redshirt freshman before his role significantly increased this past season at Georgia.
Originally a 3-star recruit from the Class of 2023, Meriweather was an in-state prize out of Brunswick, Ga., who decided to stay home and play in Athens. But after 3 seasons in the Bulldogs’ program, Meriweather is reportedly taking his talents to Miami to continue his collegiate career.
Meriweather was the 14th Georgia player to enter the transfer portal during this cycle and the 3rd offensive lineman, so the Dawgs have taken a bit of a hit in the trenches.
