Mercedes and Microsoft unite in high-tech push for F1 glory ...Middle East

Sport by : (F1 News) -

As anticipated, Mercedes has landed a heavyweight ally for Formula 1’s next era, confirming a multi-year sponsorship and technology partnership with global giant Microsoft from the 2026 season onward.

The deal marks a significant shift in the paddock landscape. Microsoft, a long-standing backer of Alpine since 2012 – dating back to the Enstone squad’s Lotus days – has opted to switch sides following the conclusion of its agreement with the French team at the end of 2025.

Now, the Silver Arrows are set to become the face of one of the most lucrative and ambitious commercial tie-ups on the grid, with the partnership rumoured to be worth around $60 million per year.

Microsoft branding will feature prominently on Mercedes’ newly unveiled W17, appearing on the airbox and front wing endplates, as well as on the drivers’ race overalls. But this is far more than a logo-only arrangement.

Powering Mercedes’ Next Technical Leap

Beyond the visual presence, the collaboration carries major technical weight, with Microsoft technology set to play a central role in Mercedes’ operations both at Brackley and trackside.

“Microsoft Azure and its AI capabilities will expand the team’s existing high-performance computing and data capabilities, both at the factory and trackside, with scalable cloud and AI resources supporting simulation workloads, performance analysis, race strategy modelling and cross-team analytics,” Mercedes’ stated.

“The flexibility and agility of this platform will help ensure engineers and strategists have real-time insights available at the moments that matter most.”

Mercedes also confirmed that while Microsoft tools are already embedded in its day-to-day processes – including Microsoft 365 and GitHub – the new agreement will significantly broaden and deepen their use as the team prepares for the sweeping regulation changes coming in 2026.

Team principal Toto Wolff framed the deal as a statement of intent, linking Mercedes’ competitive ambitions directly to technological leadership.

“Our sport is driven by those who lead through innovation,” Wolff said.

“We are delighted to partner with Microsoft, one of the world’s foremost technology leaders, whose name is synonymous with groundbreaking innovation.

“This partnership also reflects our commitment to staying at the forefront of performance and progress.

“By putting Microsoft’s technology at the centre of how we operate as a team, we will create faster insights, smarter collaboration and new ways of working as we look ahead to the next generation in F1.”

As Formula 1 accelerates toward a data-driven future, Mercedes’ alliance with Microsoft signals a clear message to rivals: the battle for championships in 2026 won’t just be fought on the track, but in the cloud as well.
