The Denver Broncos took the field on Wednesday for their first practice of the week ahead of Sunday’s huge AFC Championship game against the New England Patriots.
Denver Broncos RB J.K. Dobbins returns to Wednesday’s practice
While the loss of Bo Nix will sting for the Denver Broncos and the offense, the team has confidence in quarterback Jarrett Stidham and his experience. Stidham took first-team reps for the first time this season as he acclimates himself as Sean Payton’s guy for the playoffs, continuing to build chemistry with receivers, the offensive line, and running backs.
Players are rallying behind Stidham as he steps into the spotlight, and the energy during Wednesday’s practice was business-like and focused. The energy is in a great spot early on.
Denver’s entering Sunday’s game as underdogs, and they’re perfectly okay with being in that position. They’ve thrived in this role all season long.
Running back J.K. Dobbins was back on the field for the first time since having surgery on a lisfranc injury that abruptly ended his regular season. While his 21-day window is open, Dobbins looked like he was moving well in front of the media during the viewing period, but the Broncos and Payton will oversee what a potential return for him looks like.
To the surprise of many people, wide receivers Pat Bryant and Troy Franklin were back on the practice field too after they left Saturday’s game against the Buffalo Bills with injuries. Bryant is still going through the NFL’s concussion protocol, while Franklin left with a hamstring injury.
Both receivers were present for individual/group drills during the media viewing portion. Center Luke Wattenberg also returned to practice on Wednesday as well, and his 21-day window officially opened. The Broncos can only bring two players off of IR in the NFL Playoffs, and Wattenberg and Dobbins are the two ideal names.
We’ll continue to monitor their participation status throughout the week, but the team will be back on the field on Thursday for another practice.
