ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Hillside unveiled its “Next Steps: Critical Time Transition Program” on Wednesday, marking the first of its kind in New York State. The program aims to support children with mental health challenges and complex needs, who face difficulties being discharged from hospitals due to a lack of community resources.
The program comes in collaboration with Hillside and URMC, among other regional hospitals.
The program offers community-based services and a residential program providing 24/7 support for up to 120 days.
“Children don’t have the right to a safe place to sleep in New York State. That’s really true. They have the right to a free and appropriate education. But they do not have the right to a safe place to sleep in New York State. This program moves us one step closer to that goal,” said officials.
Hillside is the first agency in the state to bring youth into the program.
The residential component of the program is set to open soon.
