Looking at my big mulberry tree, I see a lot of moss on it.
Which side is the moss growing on?
The North side! Why is that? The North side gets less sun, therefore it’s more moist than the sunny southern side, and moss loves moisture.
Of course, I Googled the info like I Google so many other questions. Google is a necessary tool. Before Google I used encyclopedias and other books, newspapers. Perhaps I just wondered about things but didn’t find out answers, just wondered or asked someone who might know.
Now there’s no reason not to be able to find answers with the Web available.
When I lived in Sri Lanka, a man from Google wanted my photo partner and I to travel around the island and take photos of locations for Google.
At that point to use Google it would only accept key words.
The man told us that one day soon people would be able to ask questions of Google rather than just using a key search word.
Of course I didn’t realize the insight we had gotten. We didn’t accept the job of traveling around taking location photos because the payment was too small.
Google launched Street View in Sri Lanka on March 23, 2016 about the time I left the island. The data collection for Street View began in 2014. I’m not sure who they recruited, but it was interesting that I wasn’t one of them.
I eventually found out that Google evolved from word matches to interpreting questions just like the man who tried to recruit my photo partner and I had told us.
Who knew.
I wonder how many times a day that you, my readers, use Google. I Google everything…from body aches to, am I fat? Beautiful? Funny? Does anyone actually read my columns?
Dumb answers for dumb questions.
If Google had replied, “Look in the mirror,” it would’ve made sense but instead it replied about mass, metrics, percentage, waist circumference…made my head spin.
Now that AI Mode is available, Google should have interpreted that I really wanted a compliment. My cats won’t compliment me, they just lay on me like I’m a comfy rug. So, dammit Google, figure it out!
My neighbor says he’s googling more now because his wife won’t answer his questions, just says, “Google it!”

When I asked a guy friend, he said, “Hundreds of times.” That shocked me, but then he said, “It’s football season, plus all the sh#t Trump says and does.” So I wasn’t that shocked.
A married woman my age told me, “I Google several times most days! If (her husband) questions something about why his stupid phone won’t do what he wants it to, I tell him ‘Google it!’ I hate AI though. You cannot depend on the answers making sense if it’s AI. But I do find Google very helpful. I use it to verify a lot of the stuff I read on social media, too.”
Another friend replied to my question, “The better question is, how often do I NOT use Google each day!”
She went on to say, “Being a social media person, I use Google constantly to do research. I use it to find recipes. I use it for shopping. And then there’s just the curiosity factor…it gives me instant answers. I’m always curious!”
And she added, “I use Gmail. I use Google Drive, Google Docs, etc. It’s all Google!
What’s a girl to do? I guess I’d better Google ‘Google Drive’ and ‘Google Docs’ because I’ve never used them.
