Freshman Carys Fry scored in the 76th minute to help Santa Margarita’s top-ranked girls soccer team collect a 1-1 draw at No. 2 Mater Dei in a Trinity League clash Tuesday between the top-two ranked squads in Orange County.
After a scoreless first half, Mater Dei senior Valentina Labuschagne scored in the 65th minute to continue her high-scoring campaign and give the Monarchs a 1-0 lead.
Santa Margarita (13-0-1, 1-0-1) finished with its first tie while Mater Dei (10-1-5, 0-0-2) notched its fifth draw.
Mater Dei goalie JoJo Conn and Santa Margarita keeper Kaitlin Crossett each made leaping saves during an action-packed first half.
High-scoring Felicity Nguyen generated several shots for Santa Margarita.
In another result Tuesday, No. 4 JSerra (5-2-2, 0-1-1) and No. 5 Orange Lutheran (3-1-5, 0-0-2) played to a scoreless draw at Orange Lutheran.
