ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Children from Camp Good Days and Special Times have returned after a five-day trip to Orlando, Florida, where they visited Universal Studios and Disney World.

The trip aimed to give 17 children impacted by cancer a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The trip was made possible by the “Teddi Dance for Love,” the annual charity dance marathon at St. John Fisher University. Campers spoke about what the trip meant to them.

“What it means to me is a great opportunity to be with other people who’ve gone through something similar,” Maylee Cross, a camper, said.

Gary Mervis, the founder of Camp Good Days, also spoke about the trip. Mervis founded the nonprofit in honor of his daughter, Teddi, who was diagnosed with brain cancer at age 9 and died three years later.

“There’s nothing in the world like a child who’s never been there before, who’ll come up and say thank you,” Mervis said.

Camp Good Days supports more than 1,000 children annually in the Rochester region and beyond who are impacted by cancer. The nonprofit organizes summer camping experiences and year-round events for children, adults, and families.
