Another day, another reported NFL coaching hire.
This time, it is the Miami Dolphins reportedly set to hire Green Bay Packers Defensive Coordinator Jeff Hafley as their new head coach:

— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) January 19, 2026NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero reports that the Tennessee Titans, Las Vegas Raiders, and Pittsburgh Steelers also took a run at hiring Hafley. However, it is the Dolphins who land the former Packers defensive coordinator as their new head coach. This news comes a little more than a week after Miami hired Jon-Eric Sullivan as its new general manager. Sullivan was previously Green Bay’s vice president of player personnel. So it will be a reunion of sorts on South Beach whenever Jeff Hafley arrives.
Packers Lose Defensive Coordinator Jeff Hafley to the Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins hiring a new coach is a big deal for that franchise. But let’s not lose sight of what this means for the Packers. Green Bay losing its defensive coordinator is no small thing. Jeff Hafley’s defense ranked 11th in points allowed and 12th in total yards given up. Even though the Packers struggled to come up with interceptions, that defense still ranked 11th in passing yards and 12th in passing scores allwoed. Bears fans are familiar with what Hafley’s defense is capable of doing. And while Chicago’s football team won two of three head-to-head battles this year, it was an absolute fight to come out on top in each of those games.
NFC NORTH COACHING NEWS: Detroit Lions Hire New Offensive Coordinator
Jeff Hafley’s departure leaves the Packers in a position to hire a new defensive coordinator. I’m not sure what direction Green Bay will go. Hopefully, the team stays away from Al Harris. The Bears defensive backs coach played for Green Bay from 2003-09 and made a pair of Pro Bowl appearances. Harris was a strong influence on Chicago’s defense in his first year on Ben Johnson’s staff, so the last thing I’d want to see is a quality assistant leave to coach a rival’s unit.
