ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A report from the news organization Politico claims that local Rep. Claudia Tenney may have misused campaign funds.
Tenney is a vocal fan of tennis player Novak Djokovic. A Politico report says Tenney’s campaign used donor funds to book hotel stays at the same times that Djokovic appeared at the U.S. Open and Miami Open last year.
Politico says her campaign spent nearly $4,000 at Omni Berkshire Place in midtown during Djokovic’s U.S. Open appearance in August and September. The report also says her campaign spent more than $2,100 on hotels and a rental car during Djokovic’s appearance in March in the Miami Open.
In a statement, Tenney’s office denied the claims, saying “this is embarrassingly false and inaccurate reporting by a reporter who does not even understand how to read the House calendar.”
The statement continues “despite what misleading and inaccurate headlines from a single reporter with an agenda state, Congresswoman Tenney’s travel and campaign activity were conducted fully in compliance with all applicable laws and federal election commission regulations.”
