2026 SOUTH AUSTRALIAN STATE OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS
Friday, January 16th – Sunday, January 18th South Australia Aquatic & Leisure Centre, Oaklands Park LCM (50m) SwimSwam Preview Day 1 Recap/Day 2 Recap Live Results LivestreamThe 2026 South Australian State Open Championships concluded tonight at the South Australia Aquatic & Leisure Centre, with domestic athletes taking on a young Japanese contingent across multiple events.
19-year-old Olympic finalist Mio Narita of Japan was in the water this evening, contesting the women’s 200m IM.
Narita stopped the clock at 2:11.12 to get to the wall first, defeating the pack by over eight seconds.
The fastest Aussie was represented by Isabella Boyd of Nunawading, who registered 2:15.20.
Narita’s lifetime best in this 2IM checks in at the 2:09.16 logged in the semi-finals of the event at last year’s World Championships. There in Singapore, the teen ultimately placed 5th in the final with a result of 2:09.56.
Japan’s Ren Sarumaru topped the men’s 200m freestyle field tonight, clocking a time of 1:50.04.
That set the 18-year-old apart from the field in dominating fashion, as the next closest competitor was his 17-year-old countryman Yuda Oyama, who nabbed 1:50.90 as runner-up.
Olympian Matt Temple of the host nation was in the contest as well, bagging the 3rd-best performance in 1:51.16.
26-year-old Temple also took on the 50m butterfly sprint where he touched in 24.28, just outside victor Nao Shiota of Japan’s winning result of 24.00.
Kent Town’s Luke Montes was also in the mix with his time of 24.68.
Already multi-event winners here, Tea Tree Gully’s Brittany Castelluzzo and Nunawading’s William Petric added to their hardware hauls.
The former won the women’s 100m freestyle, posting an effort of 54.49 to represent the sole competitor of the field to clear the 55-second barrier.
25-year-old Castelluzzo split 26.18/28.31 to get the job done in a new personal best.
Entering this competition, Castelluzzo’s career-swiftest performance was marked by the 54.68 she registered at last year’s NSW State Open Championships.
As for 21-year-old Petric, he put up a time of 55.42 in the men’s 100m backstroke to also collect a new personal best.
Prior to tonight, Petric hadn’t been under the 56-second threshold, owning a PB of 56.02 from last October.
This evening he opened in 26.99 and closed in 28.43 to make his mark and enter entirely new territory in this event.
