“You’ve got two towns that are coming together to try to become a community, even though their needs are very different,” McNally tells Parade in an exclusive interview.
At the same time, Bouchard, Hope Valley’s Governor, and local rancher-attorney Edie Martell (Miranda MacDougall) are engaged in a “romantic dance,” which McNally is eager to explore and share with viewers of When Calls the Heart during season 13 (episode 3 airs Sunday, Jan. 18 on Hallmark).

Some of it is maybe them being afraid of getting hurt,” he added. “We get to watch them navigate that route. It’s not a straight line, but I think that they are both motivated to head in that direction. There are definitely surprises on the relationship front.”
McNally and his actress-partner Julie Gonzaloare one of three When Calls the Heart couples celebrating real-life pregnancies, with McNally and Gonzalo expecting their second child.

One tip he did share with the other two couples is investing in a good camera. "It was one of the best things I did to capture special memories. Now, I have a growing library of special family moments that are saved away.”
