No. 10 seed Miami faces No. 1 seed Indiana in the College Football Playoff National Championship game Monday night (7:30 pm, ESPN), with the Hurricanes enjoying home-field advantage at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens. The Hurricanes’ last national title-winning quarterback, Ken Dorsey, was a guest Saturday on SiriusXM College Sports Radio to talk about the pride he has in the current Miami team.
“It’s been great, and it’s been a lot of fun to watch them over the past few years and the development they’ve made under Mario Cristobal,” Dorsey said. “Every year if felt like they kept getting closer and closer and closer. And then obviously this year, they have the two losses, which were heartbreakers. But to get in and then really prove themselves when they got in – that’s a sense of pride.
“It has not been an easy road for them in these playoffs, and it has been a gauntlet to get to this point against some great teams. That’s where that pride really comes in, because it goes to show that they should be there and should have been one of the teams to be in the playoffs.”
Dorsey led the Hurricanes to an undefeated 12–0 season as a junior in 2001 and was named the co-MVP of the 2002 Rose Bowl to win the 2001 BCS National Championship. His 2001 Miami team has been considered one of the best and most talented college football teams of all time.
