OGDEN, N.Y. — Ogden Police arrested a Rochester man, currently on parole for murder, following a single-vehicle crash Friday night that led to driving while intoxicated and multiple weapons charges.
Officers responded around 11:35 p.m. to the area of Spencerport and Gillett roads and found a vehicle that had struck a utility pole. The driver was identified as 50-year-old Ralph A. Marrero.
Police said Marrero was not injured in the crash. A 50-year-old female passenger was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital with minor injuries.
Officer Ortiz Speed suspected Marrero was impaired and conducted a roadside DWI investigation, including field sobriety tests. Marrero was taken into custody. He provided a breath sample registering a blood alcohol content of 0.13 percent.
Officers also searched the vehicle and uncovered a loaded and stolen Walther 9mm pistol concealed inside. A check of the firearm showed it had been reported stolen in New Jersey.
Marrero was charged with criminal possession of a firearm, criminal possession of a weapon in the 3rd degree for possession of a large-capacity ammunition magazine, criminal possession of a loaded firearm, criminal possession of stolen property in the 4th degree for a stolen firearm, driving while intoxicated, DWI per se for a BAC over 0.08 percent, and speed not reasonable and prudent.
Police said Marrero is currently on parole for 2nd degree murder.
Following processing, he was taken to the Monroe County Jail for arraignment in CAP court.
