The 2026 Cubs Convention is providing WAY too many opportunities for content.
I’ve already got two blogs out this morning (Jon Lester’s comments + the Cubs Hall of Fame announcement), and I have AT LEAST three more to go after this one … and that’s excluding anything that comes out of the convention today!
My keyboard might start on fire from the friction. So, let’s just get right to it.
I posted the clips last night, but here are some more visuals from the 2016 Chicago Cubs reunion party, complete with Anthony Rizzo raising that trophy one more time. They say 2026 is the new 2016. ? pic.twitter.com/ra3JepAk91
— Chicago Cubs (@Cubs) January 17, 2026 Speaking of that team, Cubs owner Tom Ricketts somewhat cryptically announced that the team will be doing something “very special” for the 2016 team this year in Gallagher Way. I’m told it’s not a statue, but will be something that honors all three of the Cubs World Series teams … and any future champions, as well. That’s a fun little mystery. I’m sure we’ll learn more soon. Anthony Rizzo on the “real expectations” to win, especially this season.Anthony Rizzo says it’s been too long since 2016 and there should be “real expectations” to win every year in the organization. pic.twitter.com/7Duij4mQZq
— Cubs Zone (@CubsZone) January 17, 2026 And I think he makes a good point. I’d argue that the Cubs had some pretty real expectations last year, as well, especially after trading for Kyle Tucker. But something definitely does feel different about this coming season. Maybe it’s because the kids are a year older. Maybe it’s because of the Edward Cabrera trade or the Alex Bregman signing. Maybe it’s because of how they spent on the bullpen. Maybe it’s because of the players hitting free agency after this season. Maybe it’s because of the looming lockout … I don’t know. But something about this season feels like the expectations are much greater. Speaking of the next World Series team … here’s Alex Bregman’s entrance, complete with a big smile on his face.HE HAS ARRIVED. pic.twitter.com/bapVSPjw3L
— Marquee Sports Network (@WatchMarquee) January 17, 2026 As a reminder, Bregman chose #3 because he wants to win his third World Series championship with the Chicago Cubs. I love it.Alex Bregman is already embracing Cubs Con ? pic.twitter.com/acn00iYfWF
— Marquee Sports Network (@WatchMarquee) January 16, 2026 Speaking of jersey numbers (I guess “speaking of…” is my transition of the day), Edward Cabrera will be wearing #30, last worn by none other than Kyle Tucker, who I think is out of baseball now? Not sure what’s going on with him. ?RHP Edward Cabrera (@ecabrera30x) will wear number 30. Last worn by OF Kyle Tucker in 2025. #Cubs pic.twitter.com/IMCJ2Mzzmq

— Chicago Cubs (@Cubs) January 17, 2026 In addition to honoring the tenth anniversary of the World Series, it seems the Cubs are also choosing to celebrate 150 years of the Cubs existing this season. Some cool stuff here on the logo over the years.More than a logo. 150 years of shared history. pic.twitter.com/eyjeLL4nsc
— Chicago Cubs (@Cubs) January 16, 2026 Jed Hoyer speaks on the signing of Alex Bregman, explaining that while his actual on-field production projects well according to the Cubs internal models, the extra motivation to get the deal done came from the intangibles we always hear so much about.Jed Hoyer explains how Alex Bregman was a perfect fit for the Cubs in free agency ?Cubs Con Day 2 ?⬇️ pic.twitter.com/I7MGa0W065

— Sam Bernero (@sambernero) January 17, 2026 Pete Crow-Armstrong wants to be a Cub for a looooong time. How important is it to you to reach a contract extension with the Cubs at some point?"I want to be here for the long run," Pete Crow-Armstrong says.Crow-Armstrong adds it's "slightly irrelevant" in the scheme of 2026 because his focus is on winning this season. pic.twitter.com/NCtCjxtMHJ
