ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Today will see highs in the mid to upper 30s, which will be relatively comfortable compared to how temperatures will trend next week when we’ll see multiple bouts of arctic air, creating wind chills in the negatives at times and rounds of lake effect snow.
Snow showers will pass through the region this afternoon and evening but may include some rain and mix at first with temperatures still above freezing. Tonight will be near 20 degrees, and tomorrow we don’t get past the mid 20s. We’ll be mostly dry, however. Lake Erie snow will start to develop later on Sunday, and it will continue through Monday night.
While Buffalo could see significant accumulations, the Rochester and Finger Lakes will only see 1-3″ through MLK Day. It will be breezy though: Gusts 30-40 MPH will create wind chills in the single digits later in the day. Snow showers will be from Lake Erie at first, then off of Lake Ontario for the afternoon and evening.
We remain in a very cold pattern through all of next week. Multiple days will only be in the teens at best, with wind chills below zero. The direction of the cold air going over the lakes will cause multiple rounds of lake effect snow as well.
