PFF: Cardinals’ 2026 optimism centers around pass-catching trio ...Middle East

Sport by : (Arizona sports) -

Any way you look at it, the 2025 season was a major disappointment for the Arizona Cardinals after finishing 3-14 and firing head coach Jonathan Gannon.

But when it comes to optimism surrounding the franchise in 2026, Pro Football Focus’ Thomas Valentine pinpointed Trey McBride, Michael Wilson and Marvin Harrison Jr. as three big pieces to Arizona’s puzzle.

They’re a team truly in flux.

However, there’s enough talent on the offensive side of the ball to hang your hat on.

Any head coach who walks into the building has an interesting core of pass-catchers to pair with Murray or a new quarterback.

McBride’s inclusion is a no-brainer after he set the NFL record for catches by a tight end with 126. He also set a new franchise mark for receptions. His 1,239 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns led to a second Pro Bowl nomination and a near-unanimous first team All-Pro selection. Thankfully for Arizona, the issue of a contract extension was already addressed an offseason ago, which means they’ll have a franchise cornerstone in place for at least three more years.

Harrison’s third season is more of an uncertainty. Struggling again from a consistency standpoint, Harrison finished with 41 receptions for 608 yards and four touchdowns. Injuries didn’t help things, with Harrison missing games due to appendicitis and heel issues. Getting more out of Harrison in Year 3 and further unlocking his potential will be a top priority for whomever the Cardinals have under center moving forward.

A near-equally important task is maintaining Wilson’s level of productivity in 2025. His 56 receptions for 775 yards and six touchdowns in the final eight games of the season made him the first Cardinals wideout to reach 1,000 yards since DeAndre Hopkins in 2020. The 2023 third-round selection is set to be a free agent after 2026, and has proven he can take on more of a WR1 workload moving forward.

Arizona will have interviewed eight head-coaching candidates after meeting with Los Angeles Rams offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur on Friday, and doubts still linger about the job’s desirability when compared to other openings. Already having a solid foundation in the receiving game at least promotes the hope of a return to completive play sooner rather than later.
