The City of Gary, Indiana released renderings of what a Bears stadium in the area could look like if Chicago’s football team decides to move outside of Illinois.
On a website called “bearstadiumdistrict.com,” the City of Gary, Indiana shared renderings of its “bold vision for a new Bears Stadium District” anchored by the I-80 and I-94 corridor in Northwest Indiana.

Site Option A: Gary West End – 400 acres adjacent to the Hard Rock Casino “Gary West End features prime interstate access to I-80/I-94 and I-90 via Cline Avenue, with direct southern access to the Little Calumet River,” the website says. “Already staged as a future Entertainment District, it offers unmatched visibility and connectivity.” Site Option B: Buffington Harbor – 145 acres near an active harbor “Buffington Harbor is directly adjacent to Gary / Chicago International Airport and situated just a half-mile from the lakefront and existing marina, creating a premier waterfront destination,” the website says. Site Option C: Miller Beach – 760 acres with a lake view “Miller Beach offers lakefront access and revitalization potential, located adjacent to Marquette National Park. It presents a unique ‘Stadium-on-the-Lake’ appeal with excellent transit connectivity,” the website states.The website also highlights transportation options to Gary, including rail access on the South Shore Metra Line and Amtrak service from Chicago’s Union Station, interstate travel on I-80/94, I-65 and the Chicago Skyway, air travel via the Gary/Chicago International Airport, and public transit on the city’s bus network.
Bears President and CEO Kevin Warren announced the team would be exploring moving outside of Illinois in mid-December in an open letter to fans, adding the team’s efforts to gain assistance for local infrastructure around their stadium planned for suburban Arlington Heights have been rebuffed by lawmakers.
Shortly after Warren’s announcement, Bears fans immediately flocked to social media to share their reactions, some creating their own renderings of what a stadium in Gary, Indiana might look like.
Though the team has not made any decisions on where the team could land, and sources told NBC Chicago that Hammond, Wolf Lake and Gary are all potential locations being considered.
Earlier this week, the Bears sent out a survey to a large selection of fans asking their feelings on the possibility of a move to Indiana or Arlington Heights. The team said this is a normal part of the process of building a new stadium.
