ROCHESTER, N.Y. — University of Rochester’s Warner School of Education & Human Development has been awarded a $1 million grant from the U.S. Department of Education to improve services for students with intellectual disabilities through partnership.
The new project is called “Advancing Workforce Outcomes through Postsecondary Program Accreditation,” meant to encourage the creation of new accrediting agencies for higher education, as suggested by the U.S. DOE.
The four-year grant supports the school’s Center for Disability and Education partnership with the Inclusive Higher Education Accreditation Council (IHEAC), a new accrediting agency for college and university programs that serve people with disabilities. It looks to strengthen equality, transparency, and employment outcomes through education programs for students with intellectual disabilities.
The University of Rochester will provide leadership and infrastructure support to IHEAC’s development and recognition as the only accrediting body dedicated to providing programs to intellectually disabled students.
