The UNC Bears women’s basketball team won its fourth straight Big Sky Conference game Thursday evening, beating Portland State 80-60 at Bank of Colorado Arena in Greeley.

The Bears’ victory sends them to 13-5 overall and 4-1 in the Big Sky, good for second place in the conference standings — behind only conference power and defending champion Montana State. The victory is also UNC’s best start in conference play since the 2016-17 season.

Guard Heather Baymon led the Bears with 23 points and five steals. Forward Tatum West scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season. Guards Neenah George and Julia Riley added 15 and 10 points, respectively.

UNC led 23-7 after the first quarter with seven points coming off six Portland State turnovers.

UNC hosts Sacramento State at 2 p.m. Saturday at Bank of Colorado Arena in Greeley to wrap up its weekend home stand.

The Bears leave Sunday for a road game at Montana State. UNC plays the conference-leading Bobcats at 7 p.m. Monday in Bozeman, Montana. Montana State (11-4, 4-0) beat UNC 86-79 in the conference opener on New Years Day.
