The University of Pennsylvania earned two wins on the day over the neighboring Dragons of Drexel; the two institutions are separated by just half a mile in eastern Pennsylvania. The Penn women won 178-119, and the Quaker men earned the victory 169.5-127.5. Drexel still managed to win both the men’s and women’s 200 free relays, setting pool records in both.

Women’s Recap

The Quaker women won 12 events on the day, beginning with a sweep of the diving events as Sadie Howard won the 1-meter (287.40) and Rachel Yang earned the top score on 3-meter (323.78).

Junior Kate Levensten swept the backstroke events for the Quakers. She touched first in the 100 back in 55.17 and the 200 back (2:00.39).

Senior Anna Boeckman also nabbed two individual wins for Penn, claiming the 200 breast in a season-best effort of 2:24.05, and the 200 IM in 2:09.06, her fastest of the season thus far.

Anna Moehn, a senior at Penn, continued to collect wins for the Quaker women, winning both the 200 free (1:53.43) and 500 free (4:57.11).

Penn sophomore Amy Qin took a tightly contested win in the 50 free, touching just ahead of Dragon seniors Delaney Leonard (23.99) and Mariana Alencar (24.13) in 23.84.

Quaker freshman Brianna Cong just narrowly defeated Drexel senior Megan Ehrnfeldt in the 100 fly, touching first in 55.61, while Ehrnfeldt finished just a hair slower in 55.62.

The Dragons earned four wins on the day, highlighted by the quartet of Delaney Leonard, Clare Schwartz, Olivia Scherbin, and Maria Alencar, who combined for a pool record-setting 200 free relay effort of 1:35.79.

Drexel sophomore Harper Barrowman led the 1-2 sweep for the Dragons in the 1000 free, claiming the top spot in 10:18.45, while her teammate Brittany Corbett was 2nd in 10:21.99.

Ehrnfeldt did earn a win on the day, touching just 15 hundredths of a second ahead of Penn’s Ruitong Zhang (2:05.28) in the 200 fly, claiming the event win in 2:05.13.

Dragon senior Mariana Alencar picked up the final win for the Dexel women on the day, touching 1st in the 100 free in 52.89, just a tenth of a second faster than Penn’s Amber Smith (52.99).

Men’s Recap

The Penn men followed suit, claiming a dual meet win and handing the Dragons men their first dual meet loss of the season.

On the boards, Penn sophomore Victor Dang swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events, scoring 288.15 and 300.83, respectively.

Freshman Aaron Jia dominated the 1000 free for Penn, clocking the fastest time in the event by more than 30 seconds, clocking 9:14.76. He later picked up a second win, sweeping the distance events with a near five-second win in the 500 free (4:32.53).

Senior James Curreri clocked in the winning time in the 100 back (48.95), touching one hundredth of a second faster than Drexel’s Theo Andreopoulos in 48.96. Curreri later added the 200 back to his win total, clocking 1:47.36.

Peter Whittington rounded out the double event winners for the Quakers, first claiming the 200 breast, turning in the only sub 2:05 swim in 2:02.87.

Drexel’s Sebastian Smith led the way for the Dragons, earning three individual wins on the meet. His first came in the 50 free, where Smith clocked 20.28. He later threw down a dominant performance in the 100 free, taking the win by more than two seconds on the field in 44.41. Smith wrapped up his individual slate with a 100 fly win, clocking 48.28.

The Dragon’s foursome of Andreopoulos, Mark Eszes, Declan Egger, and Smith clocked a pool record in the 200 free relay in 1:21.96, mirroring the success of their women’s teammates just before them.
