The popular Time Out Chicago Market in Fulton Market will soon close for good.
The giant, 50,000 square-foot food hall, at 916 W. Fulton Market, first opened in 2019, according to an announcement. With 15 eateries, three bars, a rooftop terrace and tons of seating, it will serve its final customers next week.
“There’s no easy way to say this,” an announcement read. “Time Out Market Chicago announced today that its last day open in the city will be January 23.”
In a statement, Time Out Market CEO Michael Marlay cited “inconsistent” foot traffic in the area, more hybrid workers and increasing operating costs as reasons behind the closure.
“It has been an honour to serve Chicago, and we have loved our time here—Chicago is a fantastic city with outstanding food and cultural scenes,” Marlay’s statement continued. “We are proud to have been able to give our vendors a platform in Time Out Market, we will continue to champion these outstanding, best of the city talents. We hope to welcome many of you as our guests at the Market this month to enjoy our vendors’ amazing food.”
Restaurants inside the market spanned cultures and cuisines, including Hooligan, a seafood bar from Michelin-star chef Christian Hunter; an outpost of the popular Tacotlan, Bill Kim Ramen Bar, JoJo’s ShakeBAR and more.
The announcement added that despite the market’s closure, TIme Out Chicago as a media outlet is “staying put.”
According to a Boston Globe report, Boston’s Time Out Market, near Fenway Park, is also closing Jan. 23.
