GREECE, N.Y. — Greece Animal Services launched a pet adoption program with no fees in January.
Originally, the shelter was a temporary holding center for lost pets to be reclaimed by owners, but that is changing.
“The Animal Services team is working to implement best practices in shelter operations and pet adoptions are fundamental to that,” said Greece Town Supervisor Jeff McCann.
“Our top priority is to get lost pets back home,” said Chris Fitzgerald, Director of Animal Services.
“However, when that is not possible, our next priority is getting them into new homes,” Fitzgerald added.
Animal Services will keep bringing animals to Greece Residents Assisting Stray Pets (GRASP), but is now having its own adoption program.
Available pets will be found in the foster section of the Town of Greece website.

Beyond January, pets will cost $50 to adopt, dogs and cats.
