Is LeBron Retiring? Chicago-Miami Mini Series, Game Day in Houston, and Other Bulls Bullets ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

Wake up, Chicago, it’s game day!

Tonight the Chicago Bulls head to Texas to take on the Houston Rockets. This will be the first time these two teams face each other this season, so honestly, anything could happen (Houston are the favorites… cough cough). It’s also the first game of a back-to-back, so it would really help Chicago if the winner gets decided a little earlier than the final buzzer.

And there’s plenty more to talk about too, including LeBron James and the newly rescheduled Chicago vs. Miami games

Let’s talk Bulls basketball.

First thing’s first, we’ve got a game tonight. The Bulls are taking on the Houston Rockets, who are in the middle of their worst stretch of the season right now, riding a three-game losing streak. So either that trend continues tonight, or we become the easy win they need to turn things around. They just lost to one of the worst teams in the NBA in their last game, but with how inconsistent, and shorthanded the Bulls have been, it’s hard to know which version of Chicago we’re getting tonight.

Since Christmas, those two games were the only road games Chicago has had, so tonight’s trip to Houston really kicks off a stretch of nonstop flying for the Bulls this week. Hopefully by the end of it, their legs are still strong enough to win games while dominating the pace. Bulls Weekly Preview: Will Josh Giddey Return? Battles with New-Look Rockets, Two Lottery Teams Speaking of the schedule, last week we had that very weird Chicago Bulls vs. Miami Heat game that got rained out and had to be rescheduled. The new date was announced yesterday, and it’ll now be played later this month on January 29th.

Chicago and Miami will face off on January 29th, 31st, and February 1st, basically a mini, best-of-three playoff series between two teams that somehow only ever seem to meet in the Play-In Tournament. How fun!

— Jeff Mangurten (@JeffGurt) January 12, 2026 But at least the Bulls have Jalen Smith back, returning from a concussion. Without him, you could’ve basically penciled in a Chicago loss — the Bulls are 0–7 when he doesn’t play. Ricky O’Donnell from SB Nation also pointed out that Smith has a +14.6 on/off swing, grades out as a top-75 offensive player in some of the best metrics, and leads the team by a mile in DARKO/DPM. In other words, he’s got a pretty strong case for more minutes. I second that motion, I really want to see what Jalen can do. Plus, it would help me out a lot, considering he’s on my fantasy team.

Bulls are 18-13 with Jalen Smith this season, 0-7 without him. He has a +14.6 on/off swing, grades out as a top-75 offensive player in the best metrics, and leads the team by far in Darko/DPM. Why is he only playing 17 minutes per game? Needs to be up to 30 with Collins out. pic.twitter.com/Hz09hJdpxm

— Ricky O'Donnell (@SBN_Ricky) January 12, 2026 We already got a sneak peek of what the Bulls had planned for Derrick Rose’s jersey retirement when that Rose-wrapped bus popped up outside the United Center a few days ago. But it turns out that was just the trailer. Now the full rollout is here. Fans in attendance will get a free Derrick Rose T-shirt, plus Rose-themed food and drinks, and a full United Center atrium experience featuring custom art, hologram photo stations, and even a Rose flower shop. And it doesn’t stop there, across Chicago, the CTA is going all in with limited-edition transit cards, Derrick Rose-wrapped buses, and special audio messages from Rose playing at select train platforms.

— Chicago Bulls (@chicagobulls) January 12, 2026 Also, just to rehash one of Chicago’s former low moments, former Bull and current Buck Bobby Portis is still out here defending Giannis breaking the unwritten rule. His argument lines up with what a lot of people online have been saying, the losing team can play hard until the final buzzer, but somehow the winning team can’t. Honestly, I’m over it at this point. And the more it drags on, the more it feels like a Milwaukee Bucks identity problem than a Bulls one. Plus, with Portis being shopped around pretty openly right now, he probably has bigger things to worry about anyway.

— Run It Back (@RunItBackFDTV) January 12, 2026 And finally, Topps announced that LeBron James has started wearing a special patch on his jersey to mark his 23 years in the NBA. That patch will eventually be taken off and turned into ultra-rare trading cards. Now that’s incredibly cool. But, why now? If this isn’t LeBron’s final season, it feels like a pretty random time for Topps to roll something like this out. Unless, of course, they know something we don’t.
