Ben Johnson Doubles Down On Bears-Packers Rivalry And I Love It ...Middle East

Sport by : (Bleacher Nation) -

If any of those Packers fans who had their feelings hurt by Ben Johnson treating the Bears/Packers rivalry like an actual rivalry on Saturday night, well, they’re certainly going to be upset with him again today!

During his media availability today, Ben Johnson doubled down on his dislike of the Green Bay Packers – who, if anyone has forgotten, make up half of the NFL’s oldest rivalry along with the Bears.

Here’s the clip.

I Love How Much Ben Johnson Hates The Green Bay Packers

There are so many things that I like about Ben Johnson’s hatred of the Packers. Let’s start with the obvious. This is a rivalry. Rivalries aren’t supposed to be nice. They’re not supposed to feature the leader of each side sitting side-by-side at a basketball game being all buddy-buddy. They’re supposed to feature two sides that really don’t like each other, and want to do everything possible in their power to prevail.

If Matt LaFleur and Packers fans are hurt that Ben Johnson doesn’t want to kneel before them and spew compliments, so be it. Beat us. And when you do, give it right back. Do you think George Halas and Curly Lambeau liked each other? Hell no! Do you think Bears fans liked it when Aaron Rodgers claimed ownership of the Bears’ franchise? Of course not! Did Packers fans think it was deplorable or disrespectful then? Nope! Packers fans didn’t seem to mind it when Matt LaFleur pulled a fly-by handshake after the win at Lambeau Field a few weeks ago.

For a team and a fanbase that blares a song entitled “The Bears Still Suck” every time they beat us, they sure got their feelings hurt when Chicago gave the hate right back.

But when you win, you get to do the talking. When the Packers inevitably beat the Bears at some point again, they should give it right back to us.

Webster’s Dictionary defines a rival as “one of two or more striving to reach or obtain something that only one can possess.” The Bears and Packers have been competing alongside each other for a VERY long time, trying to obtain the same things. Success against each other and against the league in the form of winning championships. They’ve been doing it against each other for longer than anyone in the NFL. They’re not supposed to like each other.

Sports are competitive. Football is violent. If you can’t find that hatred for your opponent, especially one that has repeatedly beaten you down for years, you’re not going to win very much. So please, Ben Johnson, don’t lose this attitude and mindset (I know he won’t). Keep stoking that competitive flame. And good on George McCaskey for having his he’d coach’s back, too. Because for the first time in, well, pretty much my entire life, the Bears have what appears to be a mental edge over the Green Bay Packers, and the rivalry is trending in our favor, and it’s fun.
