The Chicago Bulls’ home game against the Miami Heat slated for last Thursday was to be indefinitely postponed due to a seemingly-avoidable United Center snafu. Now, we’ve got the new date for that game — and a change of date for the two teams meeting in Miami.
Get ready for a Heat wave at the end of this month, Bulls fans!

Last week, thanks to pouring rain all day in Chicago and the Blackhawks’ ice beneath the hardwood experiencing some melting issues, the NBA the floor was dangerously slippery. This feels like the kind of preventable issue that any competent franchise would figure out a way to proof for — of course, the Bulls are not a competent franchise.
Chicago instead got a nice three-day break between a lopsided 108-93 Wednesday night loss to the Detroit Pistons (missing starters Cade Cunningham, Jalen Duren and Tobias Harris) and a 125-107 home blowout Saturday over the visiting Dallas Mavericks (sans All-Stars Anthony Davis or Kyrie Irving, plus standouts Dereck Lively II and P.J. Washington).
Per the Bulls, the team will shift its impending Heat road game later this month to accommodate the rescheduled home bout. The new United Center matchup, ice permitting, is set for Thursday, Jan. 29. Both clubs have now agreed to shift back their game in Miami from Friday, Jan. 30, to Saturday, Jan. 31.
Chicago also already had a second road matchup scheduled against the Heat on Feb. 1, which apparently will not change.
As K.C. Johnson of Chicago Sports Network notes, the Bulls are about to have a very exhausting little schedule at the end of the month. That’s because Chicago is also set for a road game against the Indiana Pacers on Jan. 28 — meaning the Bulls will play four games in five nights, including three against the same team.
Given that, 35-year-old Nikola Vucevic aside, this is a fairly young Chicago team, the Bulls are at least going to be better-equipped to handle the quick turnaround than some. Although the club’s offense is so predicated on speed and movement, one wonders how adversely those elements will be impacted.
Which Bulls Will Be Healthy Enough to Suit Up Against the Heat?
There are two massive health question marks hovering over the Bulls’ season at present.
Starting point guard Josh Giddey, who has already missed two weeks with a hamstring strain, continues to ramp up slowly. The 18-20 Bulls have gone a surprisingly respectable 3-3 without him in this stretch.
Backup center Zach Collins is currently out indefinitely with a big toe sprain. Collins remains in a walking boot, and Chicago’s medical staff doesn’t even have a timeline for when he’ll be able to get out of that, let alone return to the floor.
Could the Blackhawks have either of those guys back before they play their busy stretch of games at the end of January?

By the time Chicago and Miami meet next, for these three straight games, there’s a decent chance both squads’ rosters will look markedly different.
Milwaukee Bucks All-NBA power forward Giannis Antetokounmpo — a longtime Heat target, understandably — has seemingly rejected any notion that he’ll ever demand a trade out of town, per The Athletic’s Sam Amick. But that doesn’t mean Miami president Pat Riley won’t look to make a blockbuster upgrade.
Embattled two-time All-Star Memphis Grizzlies point guard Ja Morant has been floated as a possible trade fit for both the Bulls and the Heat by Zach Harper of The Athletic. Harper also floats the Dallas Mavericks and Brooklyn Nets as potential trade contenders. Multiple sources have also told Jim Owczarski of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that Milwaukee has interest in the 26-year-old, too.
The Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson reports that the Heat apparently are convinced they’ll be able to offload unused point guard Terry Rozier’s expiring $26.6 million contract by this season’s Feb. 5 trade deadline, just a few days after that final Chicago-Meat clash. Rozier has been away from the team while under investigation by the FBI for potentially rigging games.
Chicago team president Arturas Karnisovas is allegedly poised to be one of the big sellers in the Eastern Conference this year. Whether or not he agrees to make any transformative moves, loaded with seven expiring salaries, remains to be seen.
