Asayish announces two commanders killed in Aleppo clashes ...Syria

News by : (ُEnabbaladi) -

The Internal Security Forces, Asayish, affiliated with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), announced the deaths of two of its most prominent commanders in Aleppo, amid military clashes in the city’s predominantly Kurdish neighborhoods.

Hawar News Agency, affiliated with the Autonomous Administration, reported on Sunday that Asayish said Ziyad Halab (Ziyad Zaeim Qaddour) and Azad Halab (Wadah Salah Bilal), both members of Asayish’s general leadership, were killed during what the force described as “historic resistance” in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods (northern Aleppo city).

The symbolism of “Ziyad Halab”

“Ziyad Halab” was considered one of the most influential and controversial security figures in the Sheikh Maqsoud and Ashrafieh neighborhoods (northern Aleppo city).

Despite his limited media presence, he held a leadership position within Asayish in the area and was viewed as the main driver behind combat operations and military decisions inside the Kurdish neighborhoods during the latest escalation.

Ziyad’s name was also linked to managing security crises that the area has experienced, and he recently emerged as the “top decision maker” in field confrontations against the Syrian army.

Before the recent Aleppo events, he was known as an SDF commander rather than a member of Asayish, which reinforces the link between the fighters in Aleppo and the SDF, something the forces had denied during the latest operations.

Latest remarks and refusal to withdraw

In his last media appearance before his death, “Ziyad Halab” took a hardline stance on withdrawal options from Aleppo’s neighborhoods, stressing his rejection of being transported by buses to areas east of the Euphrates River. He described such scenarios as “unacceptable in the lexicon of Kurdish resistance.”

The Asayish commander accused the Syrian government of deploying members of “extremist organizations” under the banner of its Ministry of Defense to attack civilians, according to his remarks. He added that shelling targeted vital areas and caused a severe shortage of medicines.

As for commander Azad Halab (Wadah Salah Bilal), Asayish had provided no information about him at the time of writing, aside from his real name. In its statement, Asayish said that “Ziyad and Azad” were killed on 10 January 2026.

Aleppo’s predominantly Kurdish neighborhoods saw rising military tension that escalated into direct confrontation between Asayish and the Syrian army starting on 6 January.

The clashes ended with government forces taking control of the two neighborhoods and evacuating Asayish fighters at dawn on Sunday, 11 January, toward the area east of the Euphrates River, which is controlled by the SDF.
