El Camino Health recently appointed Raju Iyer as chief financial officer. Iyer has more than 25 years of healthcare finance leadership experience, including serving as CFO of Sutter Health and UCSF Health.

El Camino Health is currently serving twice as many patients as it did six years ago and expanding its medical staff to more than 300 physicians. The organization continues to invest in new facilities, technology and strategic partnerships across the Bay Area.

Throughout his career, Iyer has had various levels of involvement in the building of five hospitals, from planning to construction. He will oversee all financial functions at El Camino Health.

“Raju Iyer’s appointment marks a significant step forward for El Camino Health as we expand our regional footprint,” El Camino Health CEO Dan Woods said in a release. “His expertise in strategic financial planning and operational excellence will be vital as we build a stronger, more connected healthcare system.”

At UCSF Health, Iyer was responsible for financial stewardship across multiple hospitals and hundreds of clinics. At Sutter Health, he oversaw financial operations for 21 hospitals and five medical foundations, managed multibillion-dollar capital investments and played a role in developing long-range strategic plans.

Documenting book bans

The United Nations Association Film Festival is presenting a screening of “The Librarians” on Jan. 22, 6 p.m., at Rinconada Library, 1213 Newell Road in Palo Alto.

This documentary is the first in a series of three being screened for Silicon Valley Reads. It follows librarians who were targeted after Texas Rep. Matt Krause issued a list of 850 books for schools to review for obscene and race-related content in October 2021.
