ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Dozens of local immigrants and community advocates rallied Saturday to protest the recent killing of Renee Nicole Good, a woman shot and killed last week by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent in Minneapolis.
The demonstration, under the theme “From Minnesota to New York: Immigrants Speak Out,” was held outside the Mental Health Education & Legal Code for Refugee Rights Inc.
Speakers highlighted fears over recent immigration raids and urged protections for families and community members living under the threat of federal enforcement.
Among those in attendance was New York State Senator Jeremy Cooney, along with representatives from local organizations including APIDA Roc, the Somali and Bhutanese communities of Greater Rochester, Legal Aid Society of Rochester and South Asian Youth, Women and Allies.
Senator Cooney spoke about the New York For All Act, saying the legislation is meant to ensure, “we stand up for the rights of New Yorkers — to push back against the Trump administration, to push back on ICE, and say no: we will not cooperate, we will not share our data, and we will not turn our backs on our neighbors.”
