An upstate New York man who is serving prison time for a pair of vicious murders — and who is the chief suspect in a third killing — allegedly told police he stabbed his own grandmother to death when he was 13 years old, according to reports.
Suspected serial killer Richard Fox, 62, pleaded guilty earlier this year to the slayings of two Buffalo women — Cassandra Watson and Marquita Mull. In December 2025, Fox was formally indicted for the murder of a third woman, Crystal Curthoys, 32, whose skeletal remains were found wrapped in plastic and a tarp beneath the basement stairs of a Niagara Falls home he’d once lived in.
Fox has entered a not guilty plea to Curthoys’ murder. A serial killer is defined as someone who has committed more than three murders over an extended period of time in separate events with “cooling off” time in between.
Now, police are saying that Fox has come clean about his very first murder, which he said he committed back in 1976 at the tender age of 13. He allegedly told investigators that he stabbed Beatrice Meabon at her home in the town of Brant. Meabon, whose age was not provided by police, was found that summer lying on the floor in her house, barely alive and suffering from multiple stab wounds. While cops had always considered Meabon’s death “suspicious,” no one was ever charged with killing her.

And neither will Fox, authorities said. Under the laws that were on the books in New York in 1976, Fox cannot be prosecuted for the killing, as he was a juvenile.
“Although no charges will be filed regarding the murder of Mrs. Meabon, the victim, family and public deserve the truth of what happened 49 years ago,” Brant Police said in a statement, obtained by Us Weekly. “Law enforcement is committed to pursuing justice and holding those accountable, no matter how great the passage of time.”
Watson, whose age was not available, was killed in Buffalo in either 2003 or 2004, cops have claimed. A hiker found her skull in 2021 while walking along the Chautauqua Rails to Trails in Portland. More skeletal remains would eventually be found at the same site — but not all of them belonged to Watson, who was in a relationship with Fox at the time of her murder.

In 2021, police also found the remains of Mull, 50, in the same hiking area. Investigators learned that Fox had killed her — also in Buffalo — just months earlier.
A cause of death for Watson was undeterminable, due to the level of decay and decomposition, and a motive for her killing — if known — has never been disclosed by police, who said no one ever reported Watson as a missing person.
Police did not say if Fox explained why he killed his grandmother. It was unclear if cops knew Fox’s motive for Mull’s murder.
Fox is currently serving a 40-year prison sentence for the two murders. He is expected to stand trial for Curthoys’ killing at some point this year. An exact start date for his trial has not been set.
