The Michigan vs Indiana Dual Meet was one of the most anticipated dual meets of the weekend, and Michigan junior Hannah Bellard rose to the challenge setting a new nation-leading 1:50.72 in the women’s 200 fly to move up to the 9th fastest performer all-time in the event and set a new Big Ten and Michigan school record.

The swim takes more than a second off her lifetime best 1:51.89 from last season’s NCAA Championships where she finished 5th overall.

She will move up from 3rd in the current season rankings to lead Tess Howley‘s 2nd place time of 1:51.81 by more than a second.

The only active NCAA swimmer with a faster time than Bellard is Indiana freshman Alex Shackell, who sits in 6th all-time at 1:50.15.

Shackell finished 2nd in the event in her NCAA debut, touching in 1:52.98 after leading at the 100 mark with her 53.08 split to Bellard’s 53.76.

Bellard came home strong, splitting 28.43/28.53 on her back 100 to come in at 56.96 to Shackell’s 28.88/31.02 and 59.90 final 100.

The former Big Ten and Michigan school record belonged to Olivia Carter with the 1:51.19 she swam at the 2022 NCAA Championships.
