GENEVA, N.Y. — Geneva Mayor Jim Cecere has called for the resignation of City Councilmember Ahmad Whitfield following Whitfield’s arrest on drug charges.
Whitfield was arrested on Wednesday by state and Geneva Police. He is accused of selling cocaine and/or fentanyl.

“Councilor Whitfield is unable to discharge the duties of his office. This leaves the city of Geneva without full representation and prevents the City Council from operating as a fully functioning legislative body,” Cecere said. “That reality, independent of any legal outcome, represents a substantial disruption to city governance.”
Despite an ongoing ethics investigation, the city’s ethics board cannot remove an official from elected office under these circumstances.
The public will have the opportunity to comment at the Geneva City Council meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 4.
