The attorney representing Rob Reiner’s son Nick Reiner has withdrawn himself from the case and he will now be represented by Kimberly Greene.
Alan Jackson, whose previous clients include Harvey Weinstein and Kevin Spacey, told the court on Wednesday, January 7, that he will no longer represent Nick, 32, according to The New York Times.
Greene is a criminal defense attorney for the Los Angeles County Office of the Public Defender, per her LinkedIn account. She has held her position for 18 years and received her legal degree from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles.
“We feel we have no choice at this juncture but to withdraw as counsel,” Jackson said of his reasoning for stepping back from the case. “I asked to be relieved.”

Nick, who told the judge that he agreed with the legal change and subsequent postponement of his hearing.
Nick was scheduled to be arraigned on Wednesday for the first-degree murder of his parents Rob and Michele Singer Reiner. As a result of the legal change, Nick was not arraigned nor issued a plea. His next hearing is scheduled for Monday, February 23.
“They have the utmost trust in the legal process and will not comment further on matters related to the legal proceedings,” a spokesperson for Nick’s family told The Times.
Nick was arrested last month for allegedly killing parents Rob and Michele, who were 78 and 70, respectively.

We all recognized that our hearts go out to the entire Reiner family,” Jackson said in a December 2025 statement. “There are very, very complex and serious issues that are associated with this case. Those need to be thoroughly, but very carefully dealt with and examined and looked at and analyzed.”
Jackson added at the time, “We asked that you allow the system to move forward in the way that it was designed to move forward, not with a rushed judgment, not with jumping to conclusions, but with restraint and with dignity, and with the respect that this system and this process deserves, and that the family deserves.”
Rob and Michele were found dead inside their Los Angeles house. In addition to Nick, the late couple is survived by son Jake and daughter Romy. (Rob was also the adoptive father of his late ex-wife Penny Marshall’s daughter, Tracy.)
“Words cannot even begin to describe the unimaginable pain we are experiencing every moment of the day,” Nick’s siblings later wrote in a joint statement, breaking their silence on the tragedy. “The horrific and devastating loss of our parents, Rob and Michele Reiner, is something that no one should ever experience. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

They concluded, “We are grateful for the outpouring of condolences, kindness, and support we have received not only from family and friends but people from all walks of life. We now ask for respect and privacy, for speculation to be tempered with compassion and humanity, and for our parents to be remembered for the incredible lives they lived and the love they gave.”
Nick was charged with two counts of first-degree murder and is facing life in prison without parole or the death penalty if he’s convicted.
