Suburban man jumps to death at Aruba hotel, wife later found dead in room ...Middle East

News by : (NBC Chicago) -

Police in Aruba are investigating after two American tourists believed to be from the suburbs of Chicago were found dead at a hotel.

Around 8:44 a.m. Sunday, police in Aruba were notified that a person had fallen from a balcony at the St. Regis Hotel and appeared dead. When police and medics arrived at the scene, they confirmed the man, an American tourist, died after jumping from the top floor of the hotel, authorities said.

During the investigation, police and hotel staff went to check the victim’s room and found a woman who was also dead, authorities said.

Police later identified the man as B. Jozic, 45, and the woman as C. Jozic, 52 — both American tourists.

A local paper in Aruba, Diario, is reporting police are investigating the incident as a murder-suicide, though NBC Chicago could not confirm those details.

Though police have not released any additional information about the victims, it’s believed they are Illinois residents who own a gym in the Morton Grove area.

Posts from Jan. 1 on a Facebook page belonging to a user named “Boris Cristina Jozic” appear to show a couple from Wilmette on vacation in Aruba at the MooMba Beach Bar and Restaurant, located just over a mile north of the hotel where the incident occurred. The duo also appear to share the Instagram account @chitownfitcouple, advertising themselves as Boris and Cristina Jozic, gym owners and personal trainers.

Separate memorials for Boris and Cristina formed inside and outside the couple’s gym, Steel Fitness Club, located at 5814 Dempster Street in Morton Grove, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

The gym’s cafe posted a memorial to Cristina on Instagram Monday, writing “With heavy and broken hearts, we share the tragic loss of our beloved Mama, Cristina Gatia. Our hearts are shattered, and our family is grieving deeply.”

Aruba police said the incident was “regrettable and unusual” in a post on social media.

The case remains under investigation, authorities said.

No additional information was immediately available.
