Saturday night can’t get here soon enough.
Ever since the Wild Card Round matchup was made official after last Sunday’s NFL slate, the football world has been sounding off with their opinions on the Bears and Packers rubber match at Soldier Field on Saturday night.
Today on the Up & Adams show with Kay Adams, Bears legend Matt Forte chimed in with his expectations for Saturday night’s showdown. Unsurprisingly, Forte thinks his former squad will be ready to roll when the ball kicks off:

In response to former Packers safety (and Pro Football Hall of Famer) LeRoy Butler predicting a two-touchdown Green Bay win, Forte sounded off on the Bears’ biggest rival ahead this weekend’s playoff matchup:
“I think the Packers are lackluster in their preparation for the Bears coming up. I think they’re a little overconfident in who they are. I think they are a little overconfidet in that fact that they’re relying on the past to be predictors of the future. Every game is a new game. Every opportunity is new. I don’t need to say anything disrespectful…I’m just going to speak the truth. That’s what I see…they’re resting on some of the previous notions of who he (LeRoy Butler) thinks the Packers are, and I think that come Saturday they’re going to find out.”
I love what Forte had to say. I’m not sure I’m going to say it myself or fire any shots at the Packers, because they’re a very good football team as well. To be frank, either team could very easily be 2-0 in this series this year. Both games came down to the wire. One game fell their way, and one game fell ours.
I do think, to an extent, much of the Packer faithful relies on old notions of the past, as Forte said, as to why they’ll win this game. And truthfully, I don’t blame them. Chicago got a monkey off its back winning a few weeks ago, but there is still a bigger one clinging on there until they can vanquish Green Bay from the postseason.

However, as Forte said, every game is a new game, and this team is different from the Bears teams of the past. What happened over the last 20+ years of this rivalry has nothing to do with what will happen on Saturday night, and both teams getting ready to play know that as well.
Hopefully, Forte is right, and we begin to see this new era of Bears football establish itself as fully back in the NFL’s oldest rivalry.
