Hama, Jan. 6 (SANA) The Narcotics Department in Hama successfully dismantled on Tuesday a criminal network involved in manufacturing and smuggling drugs in Hama, arresting the ringleader along with other members of the group. Large quantities of narcotics were also seized during a carefully planned surveillance and tracking operation.

Colonel Khaled Eid, Chief of Narcotics Department, said that based on precise intelligence provided by security sources, the department, in coordination with Hama’s Internal Security Directorate, foiled an attempt to distribute drugs and seized large quantities of narcotics, according to the Ministry of Interior Telegram channel.

The operation led to the confiscation of approximately 500,000 Captagon pills, weighing a total of 86 kilograms. The drugs had been hidden inside specially designed iron pipes for smuggling purposes. The network’s leader and members were arrested, while investigations continue to pursue all involved for prosecution.

Colonel Eid explained that the operation was the result of meticulous field monitoring, including analysis of the suspects’ movements, identification of their storage facilities, and understanding of their methods, enabling a precise and professional raid.

All seized materials have been confiscated, and the detainees were referred to the competent judicial authorities for legal proceedings.

The Hama Narcotics department had thwarted an attempt to smuggle a large quantity of Captagon estimated by 26.000 pills back in December last year, the pills were prepared for shipment abroad toward Saudi Arabia.
