News by : (ُEnabbaladi) -

Turkey’s exports to Syria totaled $2.6 billion in 2025, a 70% increase compared with 2024, marking the highest growth rate among Turkey’s exports to neighboring countries. Bulgaria followed with 6.8%, then Greece with 4.5%.

According to Turkey’s Ministry of Trade, as reported by Anadolu Agency on Monday, 5 January, Turkey’s revenues from exports to neighboring countries reached $28.352 billion in 2025, up from $27.093 billion in 2024.

Anadolu added that Turkish exports rose by 4.6% compared with 2024 to Syria, Azerbaijan, Bulgaria, Georgia, Iraq, Iran, and Greece.

Iraq topped the list of neighboring countries importing the most from Turkey, with imports worth $10.3 billion, followed by Bulgaria at $4.7 billion and Greece at $3.5 billion.

Chemicals and chemical products ranked first among Turkey’s top exported goods, Anadolu said, noting that total goods exports increased by 4.5% in 2025 compared with 2024, reaching $273.4 billion.

Noticeable rise after the fall of the regime

Turkey’s Deputy Trade Minister Özgür Volkan Ağar said on 24 December 2024 that Turkey’s exports to Syria had exceeded $3 billion in 2025, an increase of 54% compared with 2024.

In remarks to Anadolu on the sidelines of an economic event in Antalya, southern Turkey, Ağar said Turkey’s exports to Syria in 2024 totaled $1.95 billion.

He added that trade relations between Turkey and areas in northern Syria had developed noticeably, and expanded to include southern areas and the new government after Bashar al-Assad was ousted on 8 December 2024.

Ağar said that as Syria develops and its political stability is consolidated, relations with Turkey will improve and far better foreign trade figures will be achieved.

He added that Turkey’s total exports in 2024 reached $261.8 billion, and that the figure exceeded $270 billion from January through the end of November 2025.

Negative effects on Syria’s market

Syrian markets have seen a surge of Turkish products recently, especially since the fall of the Assad regime and the new government’s adoption of a free market approach. This has limited access for Syrian-made products and weakened their competitiveness, due to lower prices for Turkish goods.

Turkish products in Syria include industrial equipment that is not produced locally in sufficient quantities or at competitive quality levels, in addition to agricultural and health-related products considered necessary to ensure food and health security.

Experts warn that full dependence on imports, and opening the market to a wide range of Turkish products without protective measures, threatens small businesses in the absence of sufficient government support. This, they warn, also negatively affects the trade balance between the two countries.

On 27 August 2024, Mustafa Gültepe, head of the Turkish Exporters Assembly, said the assembly expects trade volume between Syria and Turkey to exceed $3 billion within a short period.

Meanwhile, Jalal Kadooğlu, head of the Syria Committee at the Turkish Exporters Assembly, said Turkey’s exports to Syria rose by 49.3%, exceeding $1.2 billion in the first seven months of 2024.

In a statement reported by Anadolu Agency on 14 August 2024, he expected exports to surpass $2 billion by the end of that year, given prevailing demand.
