Cornerback Kyler Gordon has missed the team’s last four games after being placed on injured reserve with a groin injury, but the team is hoping that he can get back into practice this week as Chicago prepares to take on the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field.
“That’s the hope,” head coach Ben Johnson said when asked if Gordon would rejoin the Bears on the practice field at Halas Hall.
Even before his current groin injury, Gordon has been largely limited this season, appearing in just three games for the Bears, with seven tackles and a sack to his credit.
In four seasons with the Bears, Gordon has 214 combined tackles, two forced fumbles and five interceptions.
Needless to say, the Bears would certainly welcome Gordon back. They have the worst overall defense of any team that made the playoffs, allowing 361.8 yards per game during the regular season, and their pass defense was scarcely better, second-worst among playoff teams in allowing 227.2 yards per game through the air.
The team also suffered an injury setback in their secondary on Sunday, as cornerback CJ Gardner-Johnson left their game against the Detroit Lions after being placed into concussion protocol by the Bears.
Fortunately for the Bears, they have been bailed out by their propensity for generating turnovers, boasting a league-best +22 in that category this season. That number has been paced by the Bears racking up 23 interceptions on the campaign.
The Bears will head back to the practice field on Tuesday at Halas Hall, with their wild card game against the Packers looming on Saturday at 7 p.m.
