The USC football team has landed the No. 1-ranked cornerback in the transfer portal on the third day of the transfer period. Jontez Williams, a redshirt junior and four-star corner, left Iowa State to join the Trojans.
Williams played three seasons with the Cyclones and had his best season with the program when he recorded 46 total tackles, four interceptions and five pass breakups in 2024. He had 15 total tackles, two pass breakups and an interception this season.
Former Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell was hired as Penn State’s head coach in early December, and many Cyclones players followed him to play for the Nittany Lions. Former USC defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn will be coaching alongside Campbell, as well.
USC had an immediate need at the cornerback position after DeCarlos Nicholson exhausted his eligibility, Braylon Conley entered the portal and DJ Harvey declared for the NFL Draft.
Strachan chooses WVU
Junior receiver Prince Strachan has officially transferred to West Virginia University.
Strachan was in his first season with the Trojans after transferring from Boise State after the 2024 season. He was unable to break into the two-deep depth chart and only had one catch for 25 yards in the season-opening Missouri State win.
Fitzgerald declares for NFL Draft
USC safety Bishop Fitzgerald announced in a social media post on Friday that he is declaring for the 2026 NFL Draft.
“To my Trojan family: you made this year the best year of my life,” Fitzgerald wrote in an Instagram post. Being 2,000 miles away from home, I thought this would be challenging, but USC became a second home to me.”
Fitzgerald was named an All-American after a 2025 season that included 51 total tackles, three pass breakups, five interceptions and a sack.
The Trojans will now have to replace two starting safeties. In addition to Fitzgerald, Kamari Ramsey has also declared for the draft.
