Following a season in which the team’s defense seemed to cost it a handful of games, Tennessee is shopping for help on that side of the ball during this transfer-portal period.
And Josh Heupel‘s staff managed to secure a commitment from a touted prospect Sunday, as former Kansas State safety Qua Moss will join the Volunteers in 2026 according to reports from On3’s Hayes Fawcett.

— Hayes Fawcett (@Hayesfawcett3) January 4, 2026A native of West Point, Georgia, Moss began his collegiate career at the junior college level in 2023, suiting up for Dodge City C.C. in Kansas. After making his mark at the prestigious JUCO program, Moss then took his talents to West Georgia in 2024 before arriving in Manhattan for the 2025 campaign.
The 5-foot-10 safety enjoyed a productive season with the Wildcats, as he tallied 41 total tackles, 2 interceptions, 1 sack, 1 pass breakup and 1 forced fumble on his way to becoming a high-impact defender. Moss also carried the rock twice for 26 yards and even has punt-return experience from his days at West Georgia.
Moss figures to provide a reliable, experienced presence for a Tennessee secondary that is in desperate need of some upgrades. Heupel & Co. will likely look to pair Moss with more veteran defensive backs via the portal.
