An investigation was underway after a person was found dead near Metra tracks in north suburban Libertyville, authorities said.
A Metra spokesperson said, at approximately 5:27 p.m. on Friday, outbound train 2131 was stopped near the Winchester Road crossing due to a body on the tracks. The transit agency later determined the individual – a man whose age hasn’t been released – was not struck by a train, and the Lake County Coroner’s Office was conducting a death investigation.
Trains were initially halted while first responders worked on the scene but service had returned to normal as of Friday night.
