ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Bishop Jerry McCullough Sr., the founder of Faith Temple Apostolic Church Ministries, died this week. He established the church in Rochester’s 19th Ward more than 50 years ago.
Rochester Mayor Malik Evans reflected on McCullough’s impact, saying he was more than a pastor. “He was a mentor, advocate, confidant, and compassionate leader,” said Evans.
McCullough was honored at the city’s Black Heritage Gala last spring alongside Co-Pastor Maggie McCullough, New York State Assemblyman Demond Meeks, Dr. Walter Cooper, and labor leader Debbie Lee.

As the founder of Faith Temple Apostolic Church Ministries, Inc., which has stood as a pillar of hope and healing in the 19th Ward for more than 50 years, Bishop McCullough was more than a pastor. He was a mentor, an advocate, a confidant, and a compassionate leader who, with his wife, Maggie, put the needs of others before his own by establishing programs to feed the community and provide job opportunities for those who want them.
I am particularly grateful that we were able to honor and celebrate Bishop McCullough for his extraordinary efforts and benevolence at our annual Black Heritage Gala last spring. His absence leaves a remarkable void in our community and in our hearts, yet his legacy of faith and service will continue to guide and inspire us.”
